the Christmas season draws near, eight goats - not reindeer
- will take center stage at the beautiful island of Tobago in
an effort to bring gifts and good cheer to Children living with
Aids.
Sunny
Casinos announced today, that on December 17th, 2001
there would be an online Goat Race to help raise funds for the
AidsChildren.org
Christmas Fund.
Promotion
Manager, Anand said, “With names like Foxy Fe-Mail, Dotty Com,
Sunny Boy, and Billy the Kid, our goat race promises to be a
treat. I know people are saying, this is Goat Race – you
can’t be serious! However, in Tobago it is serious business”
In
Tobago, Goat Racing is a unique event. Introduced in 1925, Goat
Racing has had a long history, particularly as an Easter Tuesday
activity. There are stables, owners, trainers, jockeys and of
course the steeds. The steeds are very carefully selected and
trained over a period of months. These energetic and long-legged
goats often become the sole focus of the jockey or trainer.
The
training as a jockey is equally rigorous, since they must be
able to match their steed’s pace during an actual race over
the 100m stretch of turf. The jockeys do not actually ride their
steeds but rather run alongside whilst holding on to long leashes.
